Vape the Best – Our Top Reviewed Mods and Rebuildables

Regardless of whether you’re a vaping veteran or are brand new to the hobby, you don’t want to waste your time with inferior products. We’ll be sharing some of our best user-reviewed products across a few different vaping categories to get you going.

Depending on how long you’ve been vaping and the kind of person you are, you may already be very much into vaping mods. Mods are highly customizable devices that allow users (who granted, must know what they are doing) to have a greater control over their vaping experience, such as altering the power settings and vapor output.

If you’ve been vaping for a while, or are just a naturally curious person who likes to understand how things work, you’re probably using mods right now. The traditional trajectory has been “gas station” electronic cigarettes like Blu or Vuse to start…then moving on to starter kits (which we just recently covered in our previous installment of our Top Reviewed series here), then finally onto mods that offer the most customization possible.

Let’s look at a few of our top mods based on user reviews (and don’t forget to check out our first piece on our best reviewed e-juice flavors):

Eleaf iStick 40W TC

Eleaf iStick 40W TC

With 10 reviews (the vast majority of which are full 5/5 stars), the Eleaf iStick 40W TC (which stands for Temperature Control) is one of the most popular mods in the vaping industry, and with good reason. As the name suggests, the most prominent feature in this amazingly low-priced mod is the temperature control, allowing the user to prevent dry hits (which are very unpleasant) as well as extend battery life and e-juice supplies.

“The all new iStick Basic Kit consists of the iStick Basic device and the GS Air 2 Atomizer. The iStick Basic boasts many features, including a 2300mAh built-in rechargeable battery and direct output voltage, meaning the output voltage ties in directly to the battery life.”

“The iStick TC 40W finds its way to Eleaf’s most popular series of devices, and the series that really placed this company in the spotlight as a leading manufacturer. The iStick TC 40W is Eleaf’s latest innovation that adopts the market’s technical aspect, while still maintaining its compact size, comfortable feel and outrageously low price tag.”

Other features include:

  • 510 Spring-Loaded Center Pin
  • Stainless Steel Threads
  • Battery Capacity: 2600mAh
  • Output Wattage: 1W – 40W
  • Resistance Range (VW): 0.15 – 3.5 ohm
  • Resistance Range (TC): 0.05 – 1.0 ohm
  • Temperature Range: 200F – 600F / 100C – 315C
  • Clear OLED Display
  • Micro-USB Charging Port

Here’s just one of the many glowing reviews we’ve seen for this mod (from Ruby last December):

“Shipping was super fast, This box is awesome!! Perfect price, lots of power, compatible with all the drip atomizers I own. Fits perfectly in my petite hands, fits in pockets and wristlets, and battery lasts all day, and I’m a heavy vaper. Thank you ecig!! I’m definitely shopping with you more often!”

Glad you enjoyed it, Ruby!

SMY Mini 60 TC

SMY Mini 60 TC

As you might have read from our description as well as several of the user reviews above, one of the most appealing aspects of the iStick 40W is the low price (as of this writing, only $29.00 through For a bit more money, however, you can get a bit more power in the form of the 60W Mini TC from SMY. That increased power will allow this mod to handle just about any atomizer attached to this mod:

“And, just to be sure that you can attach nearly any atomizer to it, it has a minimum resistance of 0.1 ohm. However, if you’re wanting to use temperature sensing coils, it also has a temperature control mode. This temperature control mode allows you to adjust temperature from 200F to 600F. Agreed, these are some nice features, but there’s something else that will entice you even more… the display screen. That’s right, what makes this device stand out above the rest is its large full color LCD display screen, which features a speedometer styled power display, a puff counter, resistance readout, date and time, a battery life indicator, and an adjustable screen timeout.”

The screen really is quite amazing…other features include:

  • Constructed of Zinc Alloy / Carbon Fiber
  • Magnetic Carbon Fiber Battery Cover
  • Utilizes a Single 18650 Battery (Sold Separately)
  • Large Full Color LCD Screen
  • Output Wattage: 7W – 60W
  • Temperature Range: 200F – 600F
  • Resistance Range (VW): 0.3 ohm – 3.0 ohm
  • Resistance Range (TC): 0.1 ohm – 1.0 ohm
  • Power Saving Mode (Auto Power Off)
  • Power Saving Mode (Time Can Be Set)
  • Auto Firing Mode
  • Dimensions: 82mm x 46.8mm x 26mm

Douglass loved these so much he doubled up, according to his review from December 2015:

“1 was not enough so I purchased 2 more. All of them are working GREAT! I like to have different flavors of juice ready to go so that’s why I have 3 of them. I use Kanger tanks on them with NI200 coils. Wonderful smooooooooth flavor & huge clouds & never burn up coils using temp control.”

Innokin Cool Fire IV

Innokin Cool Fire IV

The Cool Fire IV from Innokin is interesting in that it blurs the line between starter kit and mod. It’s a “kit” meaning it comes with everything you need to start vaping right away, but offers a lot more features and horsepower than a typical starter kit and lets you sub-ohm right off the bat. We’ll let the official product description explain in further detail:

“It is one of the most compact, intelligent and powerful vaporizers to date from Innokin. This mod has been designed with advanced features, perfect for sub-ohm vaping. It has the ability to be adjusted from 3 to 7 volts or 6 to 40 watts, which is an ample amount for most sub-ohm tanks available on the vaping market. The Cool Fire IV has a 14.5 amp limit, so it is capable of firing atomizer resistances as low as 0.2 ohm. The Cool Fire IV utilizes Vrms DC current for increased accuracy with a power deviation of 0.1 watt. The full 40 watts that this little beast comes with is precisely maintained between 0.3 to 2.5 Ohm’s, meaning that no power is wasted while you vape on your preferred output.”

Other features include:

  • 510 Threaded
  • Spring-Loaded Center Pin
  • Output Wattage: 6W – 40W
  • Output Voltage: 3V – 7.5V (Maximum Output of 14.5 Amps)
  • Resistance Range: 0.2 – 3.1 ohm
  • 2000mAh Built-In Battery
  • 3 Easy To Use Buttons
  • Flip Screen Orientation
  • Vape Timer
  • Puff Counter
  • Pass-Through Capability
  • Integrated Short-Circuit Protection
  • 15-Second Cutoff
  • Low Voltage Protection
  • Over-Discharge Protection
  • Overheat Protection

Here’s a 5-star review from Frank (one of two currently):

“I know the cool fire w’ iSub tank are a great marriage for someone that needs durability as well as simple to use… my 3rd $ 4th purchase. With’s great prices I am able to purchase these to give to beginners!”

Lotus LE80 Mod

Lotus LE80

If you’re looking for a mod with a hefty amount of power, you could do a lot worse than the LE80 from Lotus – which also happens to currently be on sale at for 40% off! And for just $21.99, you get a lot of power for a surprisingly little amount of money, which is a big reason why it currently has a glowing 5/5 star average review on our site with 4 perfect ratings:

“It takes a true power hungry vaper to really understand the Lotus LE80 and what it was built for, which is pure unadulterated power! However, if power isn’t the only thing you seek, there are other features that are quite notable, such as the top style firing button, the magnetic battery cover that holds its 2 required 18650 high drain (30A or higher) batteries that are ran in series, its resistance range of 0.2 ohm to 5.0 ohm, and its reverse battery protection.”

Other features include:

  • Spring-Loaded 510 Connection
  • Top Style Firing Button
  • Magnetic Battery Cover
  • Requires 2 High-Drain 18650 Batteries (Sold Separately)
  • Batteries Ran In Series
  • Reverse Battery Protection
  • 3-Digit LED Display
  • 3-Stage Shifter
  • TOP – Voltage Output
  • MIDDLE – Device Off
  • BOTTOM – Battery Life
  • Twist Style Potentiometer
  • Voltage Range: 3.3V – 6.1V
  • Resistance Range: 0.2 – 5.0 ohm

Here’s what Marc thinks of the Lotus LE80, and as you’ll see soon, the man has been around his fair share of mods:

“This is my 29th mod. I just ordered another one. It’s that good. Especially for the price. Simple, powerful and easy to use. Very ergonomic. The finish is very nice. I didn’t think I’d like the Hana style tactile button, but it’s pretty perfect. Everything is neat and tidy and the build quality is great.”

That’s it for now, but head back to the blog for future “Best Of” articles.
